Jim Pekol and his Orchestra
Jim Pekol and His Orchestra started in 1979 as a 3-piece Slovenian band while Jim was still in high school. Jims wife Marilyn was added on banjo 1983, and the drummers have included Denis Burgess, David Pekol, Kathy Dunbar, Carla Swanson and Jamie Martwick.
Jim, who is of Slovenian-German descent (Pekol was shortened from the Slovenian Pekolj), plays music of all countries, injecting it with a smooth Slovenian beat and well-blend vocal harmonies that are a pleasure to listen to as well as dance. In addition to their favorite polkas and waltzes, the Pekol band can can play a wide variety of modern music, including Dixieland, Big Band standards, and country. With this wide variety of music, Jim and his band have become a favorite for public dances, class reunions, anniversaries and Oktoberfest celebrations.
In addition to playing for various public and private events, Jim and the band have appeared in a Trucktoberfest TV commercial for Brickner Motors of Wausau, performed as the house band at the Telemark Ski Lodge in Cable, WI, and performed with "Americas Polka King" Frank Yankovic from 1986-1996.
Jim Pekol and His Orchestra has made many recordings, including the recent CDs "Better Than Popcorn", "Jackpot", "Back to School" and "A Night on the Town".
